SBC Global Advisors, Inc., founded in 2002, and led by Principal Susan Chaffin, is a market research, strategy and advisory firm targeting business expansion, sustainability, and improved performance of small and growing businesses, investment funds and corporations operating in emerging markets and at the base of the pyramid. Consistent with the new global paradigm, SBC’s client base covers a broad spectrum of emerging market stakeholders including development finance institutions, banks and foundations, corporations, governments, impact investors, and NGOs.
SBC has four main practice areas:
- Business Consulting and Advisory and CSR
- Microfinance and Financial Access
- Green and Sustainable Impact Investing
- Impact Evaluation of Development Programs
Business Consulting and Advisory focuses on businesses seeking growth through export promotion, improved governance and reporting, supply chain development, and increased knowledge of markets. As such, relevant services include SWOT analysis, sector and market studies, governance and regulatory review, supply chain assessment, including standards and technological innovation to raise efficiency and lower costs, product research, social responsibility studies, partner identification and trade sales.
Access to Finance consulting practice targets commercial banks and microfinance organizations serving micro, small and growing businesses operating at the base of the pyramid with the goal of increasing the number of businesses and households gaining access to a range of appropriate financial products including micro and small business loans, savings products, insurance, mortages and guarantees.
Green and Sustainable Impact Investing, an area of increasing importance among companies seeking to become more responsible corporate citizens and investors driven to give back to local communities and the planet, aims to provide double and triple bottom line returns (financial, social and environmental). SBC’s ervices include preparation of funding documents, capital raising, cause awareness and advocacy, sector studies, exit strategy and investment identification. SGBs or small and growing businesses, a niche area of impact investing, receive special attention thanks to work by Rockefeller Foundation and ANDE (Aspen Network for Development Entrepreneurs) to promote catalytic capital and capacity building.
Impact Evaluation of Development Programs has emerged from SBC principal’s expertise in this area resulting from review of more than 100 development programs while working in IFC’s Independent Evaluation Group and having conducted myriad impact evaluations and studies on development effectiveness. Given Ms. Chaffin’s strong background in macroeconomics, sovereign risk, development and program design, identification of outcomes and impact, and assignment of attribution is possible.
SBC Global Advisors Inc.’s, commitment to business integrity, reflected in the high quality of research products and advisory services, tailors its products and services to unique client needs; delivering in depth strategic market analysis, institutional insights, reports and impact evaluation on a timely basis.
